Julie Michelin (France, 1990) is a comic strip author and illustrator. A graduate of the École Européenne Supérieure de l’Image in Angoulême and the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg, she lives and works between Brittany and Paris.
Sensitive to environmental, social and societal issues, she borrows from reality to fuel her fiction, recounting adventures in which living things take many forms. Her first graphic novel, Eksploracja, will be published in 2021 by L’Employé du Moi. Involved in various multidisciplinary collectives such as F.Off, Curry Vavart and Fanzine ! Festival, she enjoys taking part in events involving publishing, the visual arts and sound.

Her project at Villa Medici
During her residency at Villa Medici, Julie Michelin will be developing her comic strip project Là où la graine prend, an ecological and societal tale about our relationship with animals, nature and the seasons as seen through the eyes of a group of teenagers preparing for carnival! It’s the story of a town that’s changing, of friendships that are born or evolve, and of a form of authority that takes precedence over everything else.

About the Comic book residency with the Cité de la bande dessinée and the ADAGP

In 2019, the French Academy in Rome and the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image, in partnership with the ADAGP, have set up a residency programme focused on comics art aimed at supporting innovative projects by established authors in the field of comics and illustration. Each year, following a call for applications, a winner is selected to spend several months in residence at Villa Medici and at Maison des auteurs de la CIBDI – Angoulême.
