Appointment of Sam Stourdzé Director of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici
The French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici is delighted with the appointment of one of its former Fellow as Director of the institution.
The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron has appointed Sam Stourdzé as Director of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, following a proposal by Frank Riester, French Minister of Culture. He will take up his new appointment in the Summer of 2020.
A resident at the Villa Medici in 2007-2008, an image specialist and exhibition curator, Sam Stourdzé has directed the photography festival Les Rencontres d’Arles since 2014. Previously director of the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne from 2010 to 2014, he has curated numerous exhibitions and published several books, including the retrospectives Dorothea Lange and Tina Modotti, Chaplin et les images, and Fellini, la grande parade.
