20 PIERRES is a two-part performance: a screening of the film Pietre, directed by Élise Blotière, followed by a staged reading by former fellow Laura Vazquez (2022–2023), winner of the 2023 Prix Goncourt for Poetry.

This performance builds on an installation created at Villa Medici in Rome, where Laura Vazquez’s poem 20 pierres was engraved on twenty stones arranged in the parterre gardens.

“Did you know that just 20 words can form 2432902008176640000 poems?

Did you know that with 20 very simple, primary, easy words, you can say I love you I’m going to die I’m fine I know a stone I’m cradling it I destroyed the universe and reformed it?

Did you know that with very simple words, you can say I lick my love I sleep I’m afraid the world is good the world made me vomit the night hurts me the mist is without silence your eyes wash me I’m going to talk I don’t care about me complete and there and yes and nothing?”

This performance extends the installation created at Villa Medici in Rome as part of the ‘Re-enchanting Villa Medici’ project, where Laura Vazquez’s poem ‘20 stones’ was engraved on twenty stones arranged in the flowerbed garden facing the Villa. This poem invites visitors to wander through the gardens, guided by the rhythm of the words, the stones and the citrus trees in the garden.
