Short Residency Programs

The French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici welcomes internationally renowned artists and researchers in all disciplines to carry out a specific project for short periods of time. Candidates applying for the “Résidences Médicis” at the French Academy in Rome can apply in all disciplines of creation as well as in history and theory of the arts, restoration of works of art or monuments and crafts.

These residencies are valid on an individual basis only, for a period of one to four weeks. In order to apply, artists and researchers must present a precise project, formulated in French and indicating the motivations for the stay as well as the themes and nature of the research.

Applications must be submitted exclusively by electronic means, via the dematerialized platform below.

A jury, chaired by the Director of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, is composed of : Alain Fleischer (director of Le Fresnoy – national studio of contemporary arts), Hou Hanru (artistic director of MAXXI), Brigitte Marin (director of the French School of Rome), Claire Thuaudet (director of the French Institute of Italy) and Monique Veaute (honorary president of the Roma Europa festival), meets twice a year in January and June.

Practical information and conditions of the stay: residents benefit from a flat (participation in the handling fee of 10 euros per day and per resident). In the case of a two-person residence, the price remains unchanged at 10 euros per day and per person. It is not possible for the resident to park a car inside the Villa. The resident will be able to take part in all the events of the French Academy  in Rome during his/her stay. The resident cannot be accompanied during his/her stay. Spouses and children cannot be hosted at the French Academy in Rome.
