Villa Médicis is delighted to invite you to the Malik Djoudi concert, accompanied by cellist Gaspar Claus. This concert is part of the second highlight of the program in connection with the Orient-Express exhibition, and brings the evening to a close. It is preceded by a writing workshop led by Anne Reverseau on the theme of train travel.

As part of his residency as guest artist, Malik Djoudi invites his long-time friend Gaspar Claus to revisit his repertoire for this groundbreaking concert. Together, they will cover songs from the albums Un (2017), Tempérament (2019) and Troie (2021). With piano, voice and cello, the two musicians will immerse the audience in the artist’s melancholy pop atmosphere.

Malik Djoudi composes electronic music on the border between French variety and club music, reconciling the synthetic pop of the 80s with melancholy lyrics. Intimate and sensual, his music has taken shape over the course of his last three albums: Un (2017), Tempéraments (2019), for which he was nominated “Album révélation de l’année” at the 2020 Victoires de la Musique awards, and Troie (2021). His many collaborations include Philippe Katerine and Isabelle Adjani.

Biography of Malik Djoudi

Malik Djoudi is a French electro-pop singer-songwriter. Originally from the Vienne region of France, his first projects were in the world of television and film, then alongside three pop-rock bands: Moon Pallas, Kim Tim and Alan Cock, in which he wrote the compositions and sang in English. Since 2017, he has devoted himself to his career as a solo artist.

Malik Djoudi’s residency is part of the process of writing his next album. The residency is an opportunity for him to immerse himself in the Roman setting and the Villa Medici, not only to compose new tracks, but also to rework his older body of work.

Biography of Gaspar Claus

Gaspar Claus is a cellist and songwriter. Initially classically trained, in his teens he decided to embark on a resolutely experimental path, open to all possibilities.

His career has been marked by multiple collaborations, from contemporary electronic music to pop and jazz. He has worked on numerous projects with Rone, Bryce Dessner, Barbara Carlotti, Serge Teyssot-Gay, Peter Von Poehl and Keiji Haino.

Already the author of a dozen albums recorded in collaboration with other artists (including three with his father, flamenco guitarist Pedro Soler), he has also released his first solo album, Tancade, on the InFiné label (2021). He also runs the label Les Disques du festival permanent.
