As part of the cultural program linked to the exhibition Orient-Express & Cie: itinerary of a modern mythVilla Medici is delighted to welcome Acid Arab for an exceptional DJ set on the Piazzale.
A product of Paris’s transcultural milieu, the Franco-Algerian collective is the result of a meeting between Pierre-Yves Casanova, Nicolas Borne, Hervé Carvalho, Guido Minisky and Kenzi Bourras.
Thanks to their blend of powerful electronic music and Arab and Middle Eastern sounds, the Parisian group has set stages ablaze and won over French and international audiences alike. Aiming to create a space for Arab culture in the world of contemporary electronic music, the members of Acid Arab have refined their style through their travels and numerous collaborations with artists from around the Mediterranean.
After a series of compilations released as EPs on the Versatile label, they signed with Crammed Discs and released their debut album “Musique de France” in 2016. The band went on to perform several hundred times, in over fifty countries on four continents. “Jdid“, their second album, will be released at the end of 2019.
Acid Arab’s long-awaited third album was released in February 2023. Entitled “٣ (Three)”, it consists of ten tracks made for the dancefloor, combined with sophisticated production and intriguing and varied performances by eight guest vocalists from North Africa, Syria and Turkey, including Cem Yldiz, Cheb Halim, Sofiane Saidi and Rachid Taha.
From Algerian gasba to Anatolian trance, via synthetic dabkeh, bionic raï and many other styles, real or imagined, Acid Arab has incorporated a range of colors, breaking down the boundaries between genres.
