Born in 1986 in Sarcelles, Mathilde Denize is an artist.
As a visual artist, her practice is oriented towards painting, installation work and sculptural composition, performance and video. Mathilde Denize’s work is a staging of forgotten and anonymous forms, witnesses of a contemporary archaeology where the representation of the human figure is constantly questioned.
She graduated from the Beaux-arts de Paris in 2013 and was a finalist for the Prix des amis du Palais de Tokyo in 2020.
The project she is carrying out at the Villa Medici is planned around the city of Rome and the Villa Medici as new spaces of inspiration, in order to develop new videos and installations. Her project named Introduire le vivant (Introducing the Living) combines performance and dance. Mathilde Denize draws from each of these resources the essence of her future Theatre-paintings.
Each year, the French Academy in Rome - Villa Medici organizes an international competition to select fellows who will be welcomed at the Villa Medici in Rome for a 12-month residency in creation, experimentation and research (residency begins in September, ends in August).
