KUKII

Since 2015 under the alias Lafawndah, the French artist has made a name for herself in the world of avant-garde music, signing to prestigious labels such as Warp and Latency. Each of her critically acclaimed albums bears witness to a distinctive style of experimental pop, marked by a constant search for crossovers and influenced by a rich Egyptian-Iranian musical heritage. In June 2024, Lafawndah becomes KUKII and undergoes her metamorphosis under this new alias by unveiling the track “Rare Baby” during a performance for COLORS, a seismic new single that marks the birth of her new project.

After his installation “Tear drought or teach me how to cry” at Roma’s Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in 2024, KUKII continues to explore the figure of the Weepers around the world, the women we pay to mourn our dead, linked to ancestral musical traditions. At once historical, philosophical and cultural, KUKII’s research will give rise to a new musical performance revolving around mourning and the memory of bodies.
