Medici Residency with the région Occitanie
Visual arts
ÎLE/MER/FROID is an artistic entity formed in 2014. Winners of the Prix Occitanie – Médicis in 2020, the Académie de France in Rome is delighted to welcome them for a month-long stay.
Composed of Antony Lille, Hugo Lemaire and Boris Geoffroy, based respectively in Sète, Paris and Marseille, ÎLE/MER/FROID is a shared artistic practice, defined as a fourth body taking shape during periods of intense work, creation and living together. This practice is situated and developed in the landscape, and manifests itself in the design of production systems that include the fabrication of tools, supports and materials in the process. This shared dynamic and its working ecology – the triangular relationship between group, environment and production – are the main driving forces. PAL, a live improvised experimental music group, can be seen as the sonic side of the same relationship.
The project they are developing at Villa Medici takes as its starting point the practice of dyeing with wild plants that they are developing in their latest productions, to put into perspective the relationship between the city and nature. The aim is to apprehend the city as a zone of great porosity, to rediscover its original relief, to detect the witnesses of a muted struggle, in the artificialization of its peripheries by the built environment and the occupation of every interstice by the wild, but also to highlight the uses and representations of nature present in ornamentation, art, architecture, myths and the culture that has developed from these complex relationships.
Application 17.02 - 31.03.2025
