Biography

Guillaume Pitron is a French journalist and filmmaker. He is also the author of two essays, published in France by Les Liens qui Libèrent (LLL) and translated in some fifteen countries: La Guerre des métaux rares (2018) and Digital Hell. Journey to the end of a Like (2021).

Project

His residency project focuses on the “blue economy”, a term popularized by the European Union to evoke the fabulous development potential of the oceans. The blue economy carries with it a dream of sustainable exploitation of the seas, where the pursuit of profit goes hand in hand with the harmonious sharing of resources. Questions remain, however: which states will own the tools to explore the “last frontier”? And which companies will make the most of exploiting the seas? Could the “blue economy” give rise to new inequalities, more glaring than those already seen on land?

Medici Residency

with the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation

As part of a partnership with the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation initiated in 2014, three Lagardère Foundation grant winners (of any nationality, age and discipline) are selected each year to spend a one- to four-week residency at Villa Medici to develop a specific research or creative project.
