Medici Residency
Visual arts
Andrea Mancini is an Italian-Luxembourgish sound artist and musician based in Brussels. His multidisciplinary practice explores sound, materials, and space through sound installations that question spatial norms and communication. Inspired by public and domestic spaces, his work hijacks familiar objects and rituals to create new sensory experiences. Andrea Mancini also explores the performativity of sound and materials as active agents of interaction. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale 2024 and is also active in the field of contemporary electronic music.
His residency project explores sound as a means of transformation, disrupting spatial norms and fostering relational engagement. Both a vector of resistance and a tool for ritualization, sound destabilizes environments and elevates ordinary experiences to the level of introspection. Focusing on materiality, he sees materials as active agents with re-articulated meanings. The project questions their capacity to redefine uses, while examining the role of sound in spatial governance, between control and transgression, and generating affective atmospheres that reinvent individual and collective appropriation.
