For centuries, ritual practices, founding narratives, tutelary figures and sacred sites have intertwined within the three great monotheistic religions around the Mediterranean. How can a place be both sacred and shared?

Ten years after its first presentation at the Mucem, and on the occasion of the 2025 Jubilee, the exhibition Shared Sacred Sites comes to the Villa Medici in a completely renewed form, inviting visitors on a journey through various landscapes that foster the sharing of the sacred.

Conceived and co-produced by the French Academy in Rome, the French Embassy to the Holy See – Pious Establishments of France in Rome and Loreto, and the Mucem, under the curatorship of Dionigi Albera, Raphaël Bories, and Manoël Pénicaud, the Roman exhibition brings two millennia of artistic creation into dialogue: from Gentile da Fabriano to Marc Chagall, it includes works by Dana Awartani and Nira Pereg, and exceptional loans from the Vatican Museums, the Jewish Museum of Rome, the Department of Islamic Art at the Louvre Museum, and the Mucem.
