Ferdinando de' Medici's studiolo or "bird room"
A guided tour of Villa Medici reveals one of the finest examples of a Renaissance villa, once the residence of Cardinal Ferdinand de’ Medici and now home to the French Academy in Rome. The tour traces the history of the site from its ancient origins to the major transformations of the Renaissance and contemporary eras. It invites visitors to discover the emblematic spaces of Villa Medici – its gardens and historic apartments – as well as other more secret areas, such as Ferdinand de Medici’s private study, nicknamed “the bird room”. Located on the Pincio hill, Villa Medici offers visitors a spectacular view of Rome’s historic center.
Good to know: the ticket for the guided tour gives access to the current exhibitions at Villa Medici.

Villa Medici offers an educational tour that turns young visitors into great explorers… of works of art! Equipped with a discovery notebook and a pencil, children and parents explore the Villa Medici in search of the fantastic animals and creatures that lurk there, whether in bronze, marble or paint. But beware: some of them are actually flesh and blood! The activity is punctuated by games, clue-based investigations and creative challenges in a grand adventure that takes you closer to the stories, myths and secrets of the Villa Medici.
