Roman venues for contemporary art

MAP OF CONTEMPORARY ROME

In Rome’s lively contemporary art scene, the French Academy in Rome is far from the only institution. Traditionally celebrated for its archaeological and historical heritage, Rome embraced modern and contemporary art at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. The city, whose vitality is attracting a growing number of galleries, now boasts several museums entirely dedicated to contemporary creation, foundations, international academies, multi-purpose spaces and venues for the performing arts.

The map of contemporary Rome is an initiative of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, in collaboration with Roman cultural institutions. The map is not intended to be all-inclusive, but rather to provide an overview of the places in Rome – some famous, some lesser-known – with programming that enhances and sustains the contemporary art scene, with a special emphasis on the fields of sculpture and visual arts.
