Biography
Born in 1973, Sam Stourdzé is a specialist in contemporary imagery and the relationships between art, photography, and cinema. He has curated numerous exhibitions, including the recent Voir le temps en couleurs. Les défis de la photographie au Centre Pompidou-Metz (2024), and is the author of several reference works. A former fellow of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici in 2007 (cinema section), Sam Stourdzé served as director of the Rencontres d’Arles from 2014 to 2020, after directing the Musée de l’Élysée in Lausanne from 2010 to 2014 and serving as editor-in-chief of the photography magazine ELSE.
Project
In 2020, Sam Stourdzé was appointed director of the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici. His project centers on the idea of mobility, whether artistic, social, or European.
