Born in 1978 in Belfort, Coralie Barbe is a heritage restorer.

A graduate of the Institut national du patrimoine in the graphic arts speciality (book option) in 2003, Coralie Barbe holds a diploma in Arts and Crafts, book arts section, obtained at the École Estienne in 1999. In 2002, she attended the Scuola di conservazione e restauro dei beni librari in Spoleto (Italy).

She worked independently for about ten years, then created the Atelier Coralie Barbe, which offers consulting services in conservation, bookbinding and restoration.

The Atelier regularly collaborates with the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée du Louvre, the Senate Library, the French National Library, the Fondation Custodia and the Jacques Doucet Literary Library. In parallel to her work as a restorer, Coralie Barbe actively contributes to teaching at the Institut national du patrimoine by supervising various modules and collection projects, and also by directing final dissertations.

She was conferred Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the Minister of Culture in March 2019.

Her project at Villa Medici focuses on the materiality of artists’ notebooks, particularly during the 18th and 19th centuries, a period that saw the practice of open-air drawing emerge and the tremendous growth of notebook production.
