Skip Sempé is a virtuoso harpsichordist, conductor and founder of Capriccio Stravagante. He has been attending the French Academy in Rome since 1987 and has been leading annual seminars there, in conjunction with the Piccola Accademia di Montisi, since 2013.

On the occasion of his next masterclass, Skip Sempé will offer a polyphonic harpsichord concert in the Grand Salon, together with his 6 students.

Skip Sempé is originally from New Orleans. He studied music, musicology, organology and art history at the Oberlin Conservatory in the USA. He then completed his training in Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt.

As a soloist, he is particularly known for his affinity with works from the Elizabethan period, as well as with French harpsichord composers such as Chambonnières, d’Anglebert, Forqueray, Louis and François Couperin, Rameau, Bach and Scarlatti. His fame is closely linked to his talent for improvisation and composition.

The Piccola Accademia di Montisi, founded in 2007 in Tuscany, and with which Skip Sempé collaborates, organises masterclasses with harpsichord masters on historical instruments. Since its creation, more than 500 students from 45 different countries have received exceptional instruction on the Academy’s instruments.
